What is Inflammation? In simple terms, inflammation is a basic biological response of our immune system to harmful things like pathogens, damaged cells, or toxic substances. Inflammatory processes increase the flow of blood to the affected areas and attract immune cells. Inflammation often manifests as redness, heat, swelling, pain, and sometimes loss of functions. Inflammation can further be divided into acute and chronic. The former is short-term and also necessary while the latter can last for months and is harmful.
