A great company is only as great as its employees. Efficiency and success of a company is determined by how motivated, skilled and efficient its workforce is.
A business will quickly climb the ladder and save a lot of time, money and resources if it can hire and retain extraordinary employees. All human resources (HR) managers know how tough it is to find ideal employees. While some lack the required skills, others don’t fit the company culture.
So the million dollar question is that what are the qualities that makes an employee self-driven?
Here are some of the top traits I look for while hiring a fresh face for my companies:
1) Professional Development
Self-driven employees are never satisfied with their existing set of skills. They are always looking to learn new skills by actively participating in career advancement programs, workshops and trainings. This helps them acquire new skills and improve their existing ones, thereby, improving the company.
2) Highly Motivated
A highly motivated workforce is always taking responsibility and exhibiting a positive and go-getter attitude. They do tasks because they want to, not because they have to. When things go wrong, they take accountability and learn from their mistakes.
3) Taking The Initiative
Great employees are always the first ones to put their hands up for taking on new tasks and trying out new projects. Be it a complicated assignment or a simple work event, they are always up for it.
4) Innovative
Apart from doing their job, self-driven employees take part in brainstorming to come up with more innovative ways to handle tasks better. They are actively looking to create new products, workflows and revolutionize the existing ones. This shows their commitment towards the company and an unwavering work-ethic to match that commitment.
5) Open-Minded
Apart from being enthusiastic about giving suggestions and feedback, brilliant employees are open to accepting the same. They are humble and possess a high emotional quotient(EQ). Such employees are always ready to work on themselves and learn from their colleagues.
These are just some of the traits of self-driven employees. Each company may need certain skills or values more than others. Moreover, when it comes to finding self-driven employees, it’s always a two-way street. The company must also offer good pay and perks, work-life balance and a good working culture if it wants to hire and retain the right employees.
